School Values
At St. Michael's, we strive to live by four Core Values which complement our Christian foundation:
Love, Integrity, Creativity and Resilience.
It is our belief that by instilling an understanding of these values in all our children, they will be equipped to thrive in an ever-changing world. Children are introduced to these from the moment they start at the school, through direct teaching, discussion and examples, as well as through modelling all the values in our everyday interactions with each other, irrespective of status.
Love:
- We are polite and thoughtful – saying please and thank you, holding doors open for others…
- We help one another
- We value what others have to say
- We speak kindly to each other
- We share our time, our ideas and the things we have with one another
- We take care of one another, especially when someone is hurt, or sad, or lonely
- We don’t leave others out of our games
- We help new children to quickly feel they belong
- We forgive one another
- We help one another to be happy
- We look after our school
Integrity:
- We are honest and truthful
- We set a good example for others to follow
- We treat each other fairly
- We take our responsibilities seriously
- We take responsibility for our own behaviour
- We ask for help when we need it
- We say we are sorry if we need to
Creativity:
- We are reasoning, questioning, inquisitive and curious
- We try to think new thoughts
- We try out new ideas
- We look for new ways to improve our school
- We work to achieve our hopes and dreams
- We look for new ways to solve problems
- We are reflective
- We are resourceful
Resilience:
- We keep going even when things get tough
- We think through problems carefully
- We try to do our best even when the work is difficult
- We listen carefully even if others around us are not
- We remember to do our homework
Collective Worship
At our school, Collective Worship is a joyful, sacred and reflective time in which our community gathers to offer thanks, celebrate together, and draw upon sources of wisdom and inspiration.
Through this shared experience, individuals are able to:
-
Develop a strong sense of belonging and connection within the school community.
-
Engage in moments of personal reflection, self-discovery and spiritual growth that can lead to positive change.
-
Recognise and honour the wonder of creation and the remarkable achievements found both within our school and the wider world.
-
Strengthen and deepen their own faith journey.
-
Explore how scripture brings comfort, encouragement and inspiration, revealing God’s love, faithfulness and transformative power.
-
Participate actively through reflection, prayer, and songs of praise.
We follow a regular pattern of worship in our school:
Monday- Vision and Values Assembly- linked to our whole school themes and topics.
Tuesday- iSing Pop Class worship- linked to a theme or topic, including those from the liturgical year.
Wednesday- Visiting Speaker- Worship is led by a visiting speaker from St Michael's Church or from one our partner churches in Bratinree
Thursday- Sung Worship- an opportunity to praise together, learning songs of worship relevant to the liturgical year.
Friday- Celebration Worship- an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of our school, including those who have demonstrated our school values this week.
Links with the our Parish Church
St. Michael’s Primary School is linked to St. Michael’s Church in Braintree town centre. The school and church maintain close ties, including whole school services at Christmas and Easter, and the End of Year service in July. Church staff and volunteers, including the vicar, Rev Nigel Adams, Curate James Wells and the Children’s and Families worker, Rachel Grove-Smith, regularly take Collective Worship in the school and run clubs in school.

Links with the Diocese
We are proud to be part of the Diocese of Chelmsford. We work closely with the Diocesan Board of Education and the Education Team who support us in flourishing as a church school. More information about their work can be found here.
